Caritas Pakistan Lahore celebrated Independence day in a unique way by planting trees at St. John’s Catholic Church, Youhanabad on August 14, 2016. This event was also a kick off ceremony for planting One Million Tree Campaign in Archdiocese of Lahore.
Parishioners offered prayer for the peace and solidarity in Pakistan. After the Holy Mass, Rev. Fr. Francis Gulzar (Vicar General – Archdiocese of Lahore) inaugurated One Million Tree Campaign by planting a tree in the compound of St. John’s Catholic Church, Youhanabad. Vicar General motivated all parishioners to play their constructive role by panting and taking care of the planted trees, which will make our area green and this will surely contribute in healthy environment. He quoted His Holiness Pope Francis’ Encyclical “Laudato Si” for taking care of Our Common Home. He appreciated Caritas Pakistan Lahore’s initiative and encouraged parishioners to support in this noble cause.
Afterwards, 600 tree plants were distributed among parishioners of St. John’s Catholic Church, Youhanabad free of cost. The people were also sensitized to take care of these plants as their family member. Caritas Pakistan Lahore’s Volunteers supported whole heartedly to make this event successful.
Caritas Pakistan Lahore also exhibited a stall, where brochures and leaflets were exhibited. A photograph presentation was also shown in the stall to highlight activities of Caritas Pakistan Lahore.
